NEW CASTLE — New Castle police said a man with a knife robbed the Boost Mobile store in broad daylight in the center of town on Monday afternoon and it was all caught on camera.
“That’s scary that’s scary,” Darlene Ascione said.
People are reacting to the brazen robbery in downtown New Castle. Chief Dave Cumo shared the surveillance video with Channel 11.
He said that just before 5 p.m., a man with a mask, dressed in all black walked into the Boost Mobile store, pulled out a knife and demanded the employee inside to give him all the money in the register.
“He actually took the store landline phone to make sure the clerk didn’t call 911,” Cumo said.
Cumo said the man destroyed the store’s landline phone and told the employee to lock himself in the bathroom until he left the store. The man also stole $3,000 worth of phones.
“I think that’s terrible, and I think crime is just growing,” Ascione said.
The store is inside Washington Centre Plaza, where there is also a bank and local state representative’s office.
“To do it in broad daylight in downtown, it’s unusual, but we are working on the investigation and fairly confident we will find out who it was,” Cumo said.
Chief Cumo shared surveillance photos of a man who was spotted after the robbery in an alleyway nearby, where officers found the store’s landline phone broken. Police are working to find out if it’s the same guy.
Anyone with information on this case should call New Castle police.
