BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Residents at Cambridge Pointe, an assisted living community in Brighton Township, were notified that they have just days before the facility closes for good.

“This is what we got today your facility is closing what are your rights as a resident,” said Kim Decouto as she showed the Channel 11 News team the notice the facility left her mother.

Kim Decouto said her 93-year-old mother, Clara, has been a resident at Cambridge Pointe for two years; but now has days to find a new home after receiving a phone call.

“Twelve o’clock today and they [called and] said that it is closing effective immediately and she has to be out within two weeks is what she said,” Decouto recalled.

On Thursday, the company’s management team provided us with this statement, when we asked the reason for the sudden closure.

“As the third-party management team for the Cambridge Retirement Communities, we deeply regret the ownership’s decision to close the Cambridge Retirement Living communities. Our primary focus is to support our dedicated staff and assist our residents in finding new homes. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all affected individuals, collaborating with healthcare professionals and families to maintain continuity of care. We appreciate the community’s support during this challenging time and remain dedicated to the well-being of our residents and employees,” - Priority Life Care.

“We were completely blindsided,” she explained.

Scrambling, Decouto, began making frantic phone calls to other facilities. She luckily scheduled an appointment but says at the new price point her mother will likely no longer have a private room.

“It’s like five more minutes away, and it is a little more money, but it is an option,” she said.

Decouto worries that other residents may not have loved ones to help them navigate relocating.

“Everybody in here that has been here forever, there are people in here that don’t have anybody this has been their life, and this has been their family,” Decouto said.

The Department of Aging will be on-site to help residents with relocation efforts. Unfortunately, regional location isn’t always guaranteed.
