Numerous couples say they were blindsided when they found out the venue of their weddings and receptions abruptly shut down.

Noah’s Event Venue is a national chain with locations in Cranberry and Canonsburg.

The closure was announced on Feb. 7, giving some couples just a few days to scramble and put together a backup plan.

Lauren Gallagher said they booked their wedding at the location in Southpointe, and it wasn’t cheap -- over $8,000 just for the venue package. She found out Friday through social media that Noah’s had shut down.

Gallagher tried to call and email the venue with no response, and Channel 11′s Michele Newell had no luck either.

It’s not just a local problem. Channel 11 learned the same venue has shut down in multiple cities, and the problem is clear as comments from brides continue to increase.

“They messed with the wrong bride because I’m going to definitely pursue this and make sure we get our money back,” Gallagher said.

According to the Better Business Bureau, this company filed bankruptcy in 2019 and is not accredited.

Many of the couples that are scrambling to find a new wedding venue were far along into their wedding planning process, but there are a lot of things that happen once you get engaged. Below are 5 tips from Brides.com’s list of 18 Things to Do as Soon as You Get Engaged, a magazine designed to help make the wedding process easier.

  • Call your parents: “The last place they should have to hear about your new status is on social media, so give them a ring personally and tell them the happy news.”
  • Get your ring insured: “We know, we know—it's not exactly the most romantic or exciting thing in the world, but it could wind up saving your butt in the long run.”
  • Think about a date: “The most desirable wedding dates and venues get booked far in advance so if you're hoping to get hitched in the next year or two, it's a wise idea to start thinking about dates now.”
  • Determine your wedding size: “Whether you're going big or keeping it small, being on the same page about this one is so important.”
  • Interview planners and/or vendors: “If you’re considering bringing a professional planner on board to help with logistics and décor, ask around for references and do a little online research, then set up some interviews.”
