BUTLER — The opening of the Butler Farm Show on Monday marks the first major event on the grounds since the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
County leaders believe it’s a critical time for everyone to come together as one community as the farm show is one of the biggest events of the summer.
“This is going to be a critical part of the healing process for many of us... these are the types of things we come together as a community and people want to [take] part of that,” Butler County Commissioner Leslie Osche said to Channel 11 recently.
But, they also recognize the safety concerns visitors may have safety concerns after several people were hurt and a man killed at Trump’s rally three weeks before.
We asked Osche if there would be any changes to event security. She said local and state police along with private security will be there. She wants to make sure families feel safe, especially after what she witnessed on July 13.
“From our vantage point in the stands we got to see all the emergency management folks doing what they need to do once the shots occurred. I am grateful to all who came out to help that particular day,” she said.
The farm show runs through the 10th. It’s getting off to a later start than usual since a few events were canceled due to the FBI’s investigation into the shooting on the grounds.
