Butler Health System, Excela Health will come together to form new healthcare system

A new competitor will be entering the Western Pennsylvania health care market.

Butler Health System and Excela Health will come together to form a new health care system. The two health systems announced on Wednesday that they have signed a letter of intent to combine their organizations.

It will join five hospitals — Butler, Clarion, Frick, Latrobe and Westmoreland — under one system, bringing in an estimated $1 billion in revenue.

There is no word yet on what the new system will be called.

Terri Petrick and Tim Morgus, the board chairs of Excela and Butler respectively, voiced their organizations’ mutual enthusiasm regarding the creation of the joint health system. “Our Boards believe we have the opportunity to create a new paradigm of care in western Pennsylvania.”
