Butler Intermediate High School switching to remote learning after accident damages gas line

BUTLER COUNTY — Officials from Butler School District say one of their schools will be on a remote learning schedule after an accident damaged a gas line.

According to our partners at ButlerRadio.com, one person was injured after a vehicle crashed and caught fire at Fairground Hill Road on Wednesday at around 1 p.m.

The vehicle damaged a gas line on that road. Butler Senior High School and Butler Intermediate High School sit on the same road where the accident happened.

Brian White, the district’s superintendent, said gas companies told the district that the damage would cause a disruption to both schools. Students were then sent home.

Butler Senior High School has not been impacted but the Intermediate High School will be.

White said the district would be unable to heat the Intermediate High School, so students who study in that building will attend remote learning on Thursday.

An email is expected to be sent to students to provide instructions for the day’s learning. Students who do not have access to the internet are asked to provide a note from a parent or guardian when they return to school in person.

Students who go to the district’s K-5 elementary schools or Center Avenue Community School are not affected in any way.
