Carnegie Mellon University to begin spring semester remote

PITTSBURGH — Carnegie Mellon University will begin the spring semester remotely in response to the spread of the omicron variant, the school announced on Thursday.

From Jan. 18 through Jan. 30, most courses for students will be taught through remote instruction. The university anticipates classes to return in-person on January 31.

Students will be able to return to campus as scheduled, but can also stay in their current location until in-person learning resumes. Residence halls and on-campus dining will be open to students. Carnegie Mellon is advising students to avoid travelling if they are experiencing symptoms or test positive for COVID-19.

All CMU students and faculty are required to get tested during the month of January, regardless of vaccination status. Additionally, all community members must have a booster shot against COVID-19.
