SANDUSKY, Ohio — Cedar Point announced that it’s retiring one of its most iconic coasters, the Top Thrill Dragster, after nearly 20 seasons.

The announcement was made on the park’s social media pages around 9:40 a.m.

The ride closed for the rest of the 2021 season after a metal object broke off of the ride and hit a woman who was waiting in line.

The park went on to say “Our team is hard at work, creating a new and reimagined ride experience. We’ll share more details and information at a later date.”

Over 18 million people have ridden the coaster since it opened in 2003, according to the park.
