Bus drivers for a local school district are fighting efforts to outsource drivers.
They say Chartiers Valley is considering going with a new transportation company, as 65 union drivers fight for a new contract.
“It’s important for us to come out to show the board that these are real people, they’re not just lines on a budget,” union representative Annie Briscoe told Channel 11 at a school board meeting Tuesday. “These are people who live here, who work here, who come to work every day to support our kids.”
The Chartiers Valley School Board sent a statement regarding the transportation negotiations. It says in part:
“The board has a fiduciary obligation to the residents and taxpayers to explore every possible cost-saving measure. This responsibility includes ensuring that the district continues to deliver the highest quality education for our children in the most cost-effective manner. Failing to do so would be a disservice to all Chartiers Valley families and taxpayers.”
The school board asks the community to allow the negotiation process to unfold in a “professional and respectful manner.”
