PITTSBURGH — The Global Clean Energy Action Forum is shining a spotlight on green energy companies from around the world, but the city of Pittsburgh is also sharing the stage.
Gov. Tom Wolf called the city the “capital of innovation in the world.” Channel 11 spoke with the governor while he toured electric semi-trucks. He says Pittsburgh is the perfect host.
“You have great universities, a great work force. I keep using Pittsburgh as a city, I think everyone does, of a city that picked itself up and is back,” Wolf said.
The conference is the first of its kind. Each company taking part is playing a role in working toward the Biden Administration’s goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050.
“It’s the kind of force we need if we’re going to address the biggest challenge of the world, which is climate change,” Wolf said.
It’s a chance for the city to show off in more ways than one. Multiple local companies were featured. It’s also good for the economy says County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.
“Over 6,000 people filling up your hotel rooms, spending money and learning about Pittsburgh,” he said. “This is a $23 trillion market over the next decade. We’re prepared to get those jobs here and for our companies in Pittsburgh.”
We asked Gov. Wolf where he sees Pittsburgh in the future of green energy.
“At the heart of it. I think that’s why it’s such an important conference to have here in Pittsburgh.”
The conference runs through Friday. Click here for more details.
