Police: Ex-boyfriend charged in fatal Wilkinsburg love triangle shooting

WILKINSBURG, Pa. — County homicide detectives have arrested a Pittsburgh man on charges he fatally shot a young couple found dead in their bed in their Wilkinsburg home.

The Allegheny County medical examiner said Dashawna Gibson, 24, and Michael Black, 23, were found shot to death Sunday afternoon inside a home along Princeton Boulevard.

County police said Joshua Wright, 23, is accused in the shooting, which happened just after 5 a.m.

“Right now, we believe the motive was something to do with being the ex-boyfriend and the father of the female victim’s child. There may have been some jealousy or anger toward the new boyfriend,” Allegheny County Police Lt. Andrew Schurman said.

Gibson’s great aunt, Josephine Zellous, said Wright is Gibson’s ex-boyfriend and father of her 3-year-old son.

“She was at another cousin’s house, thinking he wouldn’t know where she would be,” Zellous said.

Zellous also said that Gibson recently began growing fearful of Wright and worried he would try to kidnap her son.

“They didn’t want the baby playing at the playground because they were afraid he would snatch the baby,” Zellous said. “There have been police reports sent in and everything.”

Neighbors told Channel 11 News that they heard the gunfire but originally thought it was fireworks.

According to detectives, the couple was found in a bedroom. Neighbors said a roommate found the bodies about 2 p.m.

"It's still kind of creepy, though. Two people that got killed over there. That's hard to deal with," said neighbor Tammy Rankin. "They could have got the wrong door. They look identical."

Police found no signs of forced entry, and said Wright was apparently able to get to an upstairs bedroom undetected before shooting the victims.

Investigators have not said how Wright was able to get inside the house. The entire shooting remains under investigation.

“Shawna is gone, and we can't bring her back,” Zellous said. “But to all you young women out there that find yourself in situations like this, get out of it. Just get out of it.”

Officials said the 3-year-old boy is being taken care of by family members.
