UNITY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — One person is dead and another person was injured after an SUV crashed into a tree and rolled over along Route 30 in Unity Township Thursday morning.
Westmoreland County dispatchers said the call for the crash came in around 9:52 a.m.
State police said the driver, Eugene Kravitz, and passenger, Barbara Kravitz, both in their mid-70s, became trapped inside the SUV after it hit a tree and overturned. They were both extracted from the SUV and taken to a hospital. Barbara Kravitz later passed away from her injuries.
State police said Eugene Kravitz may have had a medical emergency that caused the crash.
Route 30 Eastbound was shut down in the area for hours as crews worked to clear the scene, including cutting down trees.
Dana Sarson lives next door to where the car came to an upside-down stop. She said she didn’t notice any damage to her property, but her thoughts were with the couple inside the SUV.
“My heart went out for whoever was in that car, because it looked horrible,” she told Channel 11′s Andrew Havranek.
There’s no word on how Eugene Kravitz is doing.
