PITTSBURGH — A crash briefly shut down part of Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) in Pittsburgh.
According to PennDOT, the crash was first reported at 10:44 p.m. Friday between Edgebrook Avenue and Goff Street.
Our crew on scene saw a single vehicle with heavy damage in the roadway.
A Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson says the vehicle crashed into a pole, trapping the driver and passenger inside.
Medics removed the driver’s side door and took him to a hospital in stable condition.
The passenger side door could not be opened, so rescue crews removed the roof of the vehicle.
At that point, first responders realized her lower extremities were trapped by the collapsed dashboard. So, they performed a dash roll and got her out of the vehicle through the driver’s side.
The passenger was taken to a hospital in serious, but stable condition.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
At ~ 10:45 p.m., EMS, Fire, and Police were dispatched to Route 51 at Edgebrook for a single vehicle collision into a pole. The driver and passenger were heavily entrapped.

The northbound lanes of Route 51 were closed until about 11:40 p.m.
