Fire destroys first floor of Ross Township home

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A fire broke out inside a home in Ross Township on Thursday morning.

The fire started shortly before 10 a.m. along Pioneer Avenue.

Firefighters said they were able to knock down the fire pretty quickly, but that the first floor was destroyed.

Channel 11 spoke with a man who says his brother’s family lives inside.

At the time, his brother’s wife was in the basement and when she went upstairs, it was in flames. She ran back downstairs through the backdoor.

The family has three dogs. Two of them made it out and the other dog is still missing.

Three kids who live inside the home were at school and the husband was at work.

The family believes the fire started in the kitchen.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause. Crews said the wind and cold played a factor in putting out the fire.
