ALLENPORT, Pa. — One home was destroyed, another significantly damaged in a fire on Main Street in Allenport, Washington County, Wednesday evening.
Fire officials got the call around 6:30 p.m.
“I heard three big booms. Next thing you know, the house is engulfed,” neighbor Brandon Veschio told us. “When I got outside, the front of the house was completely engulfed. I was speechless.”
He raced over to warn his neighbors, but they were already outside. They told Channel 11 off-camera that a stranger driving by had knocked on the door to tell them to evacuate.
The homes were owned by members of the same family. The brother owned the one in the middle. That’s where the fire started and spread to the sister’s home on the right and a vacant home on the left.
All of the family members had been in the sister’s home watching the news when the stranger knocked on the door.
Everyone did make it out of the house safely. Firefighters were even able to rescue a cat.
Neither of the houses were insured.
“It’s just the worst thing that could happen on the night before Thanksgiving,” Veschio said.
The fire marshal is investigating.
