Allegheny County 911 received a call from a tractor-trailer driver just after 1 a.m. Monday, stating that his tractor-trailer left the road and went into the woods near the bottom of Bellbridge Road.
The Lincoln Borough police chief told Channel 11 that road is steep and the driver lost control. He was extricated from the cab and taken to an area hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
The truck was hauling about 80 55-gallon drums of a “two-part epoxy chemical,” according to a report from Matthew Brown, chief of the Allegheny County Department of Emergency Services. The saddle tanks of the truck were leaking diesel into a stream and some of the drums were leaking and compromised.
The Allegheny County hazmat team was called as was the DEP. Officials determined the leaking material presents no air or fire hazards, according to the report.
Channel 11 was told the leak was contained to a stream and did not make it to the river.
The Lincoln Borough police chief told us a shelter in place order was implemented as soon as the crash occurred but was lifted within about 15 to 20 minutes.
The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
