SUV strikes teen, house in Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar

PITTSBURGH — An SUV struck a teen before plowing into a house in Pittsburgh’s Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood around 6:40 a.m. Friday.

The teen and the male driver were transported to area hospitals in stable condition.

The crash happened in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Churchland Street.

Pittsburgh Public Safety officials say the driver had to be cut from the SUV.

Police tell Channel 11 they’ve been aware of the recent speeding complaints in the area and responded with targeted patrols. They have not yet said if speeding was a factor in this crash.

“Somebody could have been in that house, so now we’re definitely going to do what we need to do to put a speed bump right here,” said Jayb’on Lewis, who works in the area.

Neighbors and those familiar with the area said they’re not surprised that something like this happened. Lewis catches the bus right near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Churchland Street, where the speed limit is 25 miles per hour. He, along with several neighbors who didn’t want to talk on camera, said they see plenty of drivers going well beyond that speed limit.

“There’s kids all through there, everybody is going to school in the morning, it’s early in the morning,” Lewis said. “But there’s no crossing guard, no speed bumps…”

The house, which was under construction, was vacant at the time.
