PITTSBURGH — Crews spent hours freeing a stuck semi-truck in Pittsburgh’s California-Kirkbride neighborhood.
First responders were sent to the 1100 block of Sunday Street just after 9:30 a.m.
Initial reports said the truck was over a hillside, but it was actually wedged between a retaining wall and a utility pole, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.
No one was injured, and charges are not expected. The driver reportedly misnavigated the roads.
A towing company is on scene and will use a crane to free the truck.
One of the tow truck operators on scene tells Channel 11 they plan to lift and swing the trailer.
Drivers are told to avoid the area.
“When I saw all this, I said, ‘Someone’s coming down that hill again and got stuck,’ and sure enough, they did,” said Kenneth Lindsey, who lives on Sedgwick Street.
Neighbors told Channel 11 it’s not uncommon to look outside and see a semi-truck stuck along Sunday Street. They said this has happened many times before.
“I guess GPS tells them to go that way, and it doesn’t know how steep that hill is,” Lindsey said.
McGann and Chester Towing brought in the crane, positioned it on one side of the semi, and placed its tow truck on the other. Cell phone video shows them lifting the semi-truck with the crane as they swung it back into the road, and after a few hours, crews slowly guided it down the hill.
