The Pittsburgh Pirates did not get a hit with a runner in scoring position and their starting pitcher issued five walks.
Yet the Pirates were somehow able to slip past the Giants 2-1 on Tuesday night at Oracle Park in San Francisco. The win was just the seventh in the last 26 games for the Pirates following their 20-8 start to the season and got them back to .500 at 27-27.
The Pirates were 0 for 5 with runners on second or third. Johan Oviedo’s five walks contributed to him needing 92 pitches to get through 4.1 innings despite allowing only one run.
