WHITEHALL, Pa. — A driver of a car that crashed into a utility pole on Route 51 was rescued after being trapped Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at 7:18 a.m. along Saw Mill Run Boulevard near Stewart Avenue in Whitehall.
Units arrived on scene to find the driver pinned between a utility pole and the vehicle. The front seat passenger was able to get themselves out of the vehicle.
Duquesne Light crews also responded to stabilize and move the utility pole away from the driver. First responders were able to get the driver out of the vehicle.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were both taken to a hospital. The driver is said to be in critical condition.
The Whitehall Police Chief did tell Channel 11 that the crash was weather-related and that the car hydroplaned.
According to Whitehall police, the portion of the road that was closed for the crash was reopened around 10:30 a.m.
UPDATE: The operator was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a trauma center by Medical Rescue Team South...
