Earth Day 2022 events in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — Celebrate Earth Day this year with events happening across the Pittsburgh area!

Earth Day is Friday, April 22.

Here is a list of what’s happening:

Go Green at Market Square

Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Market Square

Pittsburgh Earth Day is inviting the community to celebrate in Downtown Pittsburgh with activities for all ages. The event will include live music, an electric vehicle corner, activity boots and local businesses sharing their sustainable mission for the City of Pittsburgh.

Wild Earth Day

Friday 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and events happening all month

Throughout the month, events are happening both in-person and online, and include animal enrichment, educational tips, learning opportunities, sustainable giveaways, and free Zoo ticket prizes -- including the #SaveThePlanet social media contest.

On Earth Day, the zoo will celebrating with special animal feedings, enrichment activities and presentations throughout the day. Guests are also encouraged to bring a used cell phone for recycling. They will be entered into a drawing to win a pair of zoo tickets.

Pittsburgh Park Conservancy

Various dates and times

The Pittsburgh Park Conservancy is celebrating the Earth for the entire month. Plant walks, family days, birding adventures and more are part of a huge schedule of events they have planned.

Litter League

Friday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The 3 Rivers Conservation crew will kick off “Litter League” with an Earth Day Happy Hour at Cinderlands Warehouse in the Strip District.

All Litter League participants are welcome to attend for beer specials and more. Being a participant includes litter collection challenger through the rest of the spring, with chances to win prizes, enjoy refreshments and take part in activites.

Cinderlands Beer Co. also released “Clean Ways,” a kölsch-style beer, in collaboration with Allegheny CleanWays and 3 Rivers Outdoor Co. A portion of the proceeds will go to Allegheny CleanWays.


Garden Drive

Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Oasis Farm and Fishery will host its third annual Garden Drive in Homewood.

The event is family friendly, with workshops on urban farming, pizza making in an outdoor brick oven, seed planting, tree care, and more.

Participants will receive gardening materials and resources to support home gardens.

South Hills Village Celebrates Earth Week

Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

South Hills Village is celebrating Earth Week with an event focused on sustainability, recycling, upcycling, donations and more.

Guests will get a free appetizer from Bonefish Grill or a free dessert from BJ’s Brewhouse with a donation of gently used professional or business casual clothing or new personal care item for Dress for Success Pittsburgh.

Canon-McMillan Environmental Club will be on site to educate families about gardening through children’s crafts.

Several South Hills Village stores and local non-profits will feature sustainable products and initiatives.

Donors will be eligible to win Red Robin gift cards and a Vera Bradley drawstring tote.


Ross Park Mall Celebrates Earth Week

Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Ross Park Mall is celebrating Earth Week with a family event that’s focused on ways to reduce our environmental footprint.

Donors will receive a coupon for free gourmet fries from Charleys Philly Steaks. Starbucks will offer fresh coffee grounds in reusable cups for guests that want to help their garden bloom.

Local non-profits and Ross Park Mall stores will feature their sustainable products and initiatives.


BrewDog

Friday, while supplies last

BrewDog Pittsburgh will be handing out dogwood saplings in upcycled BrewDog cans.

Be one of the first at BrewDog on Friday to get a can while supplies last. No purchase necessary.


Waste Management

Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Waste Management will be outside of PPG Paints Arena ahead of Thursday’s game with an interactive recycling sorting game.

THe “Recycle Right Live Sort” game will give fans a minute to test their recycling knowledge by sorting items in their correct containers.


Online Earth Day Extravaganza

Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A virtual extravaganza celebrating art and the environment.

Learn facts about Earth Day, heart guest artists speak about their work, participate in plastic-themed reuse art making.
