ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — An animal shelter in Elizabeth Township is closing its doors after 38 years.
Officials at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society said the closure of the Fallen Timber Animal Shelter is necessary.
“It really came down to consolidating services in one location so we can better serve animals in our care,” said Gretchen Fieser of the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society.
Despite the shelter’s closure next month, the animals that remain in its care will not be in danger.
Officials are pushing for adoption of the animals, but those that do not find a new home will be taken to another shelter.
