Emergency crews battle flames near recycling plant for hours in North Fayette Township

NORTH FAYETTE TOWHSHIP, Pa. — A fire near a recycling plant in North Fayette Township has been burning for hours.

Firefighters, police officers and medics were called to 111 Kelso Road at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. North Fayette Volunteer Fire Department said it remained on scene “well into the night.” Overall, they were on scene for just shy of six hours.

The department says it was a large wood scrap fire. The response was “scaled up” because the department said the fire was difficult to access and a large-scale water supply operation. A department official tells Channel 11 they don’t know the cause of the fire.

Over 20 departments from three counties responded to put out the fire.

No one was hurt, although one firefighter was transported for dehydration.
