Emergency crews respond to school bus accident in Houston

HOUSTON, Pa. — Several Canon-McMillan students were taken to the hospital as a precaution after a school bus accident late Friday morning in Houston.

According to police, the two-vehicle accident was reported on Route 19 near Interstate 79 around 11:30 a.m.

Investigators said the school bus was stopped at a railroad crossing when a car rear-ended it.

Canonsburg Hospital officials said six of the 11 students on the bus were brought to the hospital.

"Six people were transported here. One opted not to be treated. Five went to the emergency department," said Patty Toner, the Canonsburg Hospital spokesperson.

Channel 11's Brandon Hudson talked with a 16-year-old girl and her mother as they were leaving the hospital. The girl said the students were on their way back to the high school from West Career Tech.

"I was in shock," said Kim Debar, the mother of one of the students taken to the hospital.

Neither driver suffered injuries in the accident.
