Fallen tree brings down wires, blocks intersection of busy Allegheny County roadway

PLEASANT HILLS, Pa. — UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: PennDOT said Route 51 has reopened. Utility repairs have been made at the intersection of North Lewis Run Road and Route 51.

An intersection of a busy Allegheny County road closed Wednesday after a tree brought down utility wires.

Route 51 is closed at North Lewis Run Road in Pleasant Hills. Police on the scene tell Channel 11 that a large tree fell, blocking the roadway and bringing down a Verizon utility pole.

At around 6 a.m., officials say a vehicle drove into the downed wires. Duquesne Light Company responded to disconnect everything. The driver was unharmed.

The intersection is expected to reopen by 3 p.m.
