MCKEESPORT, Pa. — Nearly one month later, police have not yet identified a suspect in the murder of 16-year-old Chance Naylor. The McKeesport student was shot and killed outside of a gas station just blocks from his home.
“For somebody to kill him out of jealousy, hate, and out of spite. You reap what you sow,” said Troy Naylor, the father of the victim.
Troy Naylor is searching for answers nearly one month after his son chance was gunned down in their neighborhood.
“This is so senseless, and it doesn’t make sense because he didn’t bother nobody,” Troy Naylor said.
Troy Naylor described his teenage son as a homebody who enjoyed computers and basketball. He said his son even planned to try out for the team this year after spending the last two years doing online learning.
“He got hops out of this world,” Troy Naylor said.
Unfortunately, his dad said in-person learning became difficult when Chance didn’t fit in at school.
“These boys around here hang in gangs. They hang together. They play with guns and my son wasn’t a part of that, so they picked on him because of that,” Troy Naylor said.
But he said he never expected what happened on Dec. 13 when his son and a friend visited the local Unimart up the street from their home.
Surveillance videos show them going into the store. A man follows behind them and then a gun appears aimed at Chance.
Chance and his friend were shot multiple times as they tried to enter the Unimart -- glass and shelf casings littered the ground.
And unfortunately, Chance who was shot in his head would later die from his injuries.
“When they killed him, they killed a part of me. He was my whole world. I don’t know how I am going to go on without him,” Troy Naylor said.
Troy Naylor still searching for answers wants the person in that surveillance video who pulls the trigger and is responsible for Chance’s death behind bars
“I will keep fighting until I get justice for my son,” he said.
Taylor Naylor said he is offering a reward to anyone who can provide police with details about his son’s murder. County police continue to investigate and are working to identify a suspect.
