PITTSBURGH — A woman who was found shot in a car in a Pittsburgh neighborhood Thursday night has died.
Danasia Lighty, 25, was pronounced dead at Allegheny General Hospital after being found shot near an elementary school in Brighton Heights.
Officers responding to a 12-round ShotSpotter in the area of Fleming and Falck avenues just before 11 p.m. found Lighty inside a vehicle on Fleming with multiple gunshot wounds. This is not far from Pittsburgh Public’s Morrow Elementary School.
Firefighters gave aid until medics arrived and took her to a local hospital in very critical condition, according to a Pittsburgh Public Safety report.
We have no idea. I have no idea,” Angel Lighty told Channel 11.
She wants answers on who shot and killed her daughter.
“She was my best friend. My heart is broken right now,” she said.
Her mom told us that Danasia just got home from work, and was inside of her car when someone ran up to her, and fired a gun.
“She is a very, very playful, loving person. Everybody loves her, everyone calls her Nay Nay.”
She found out her daughter was dead after a phone call from her son.
“He told me my daughter was shot. That’s all he knew.”
She’s now asking for neighbors along Fleming Avenue to check their cameras
“If they saw anything, report it. Let the cops know, the detectives, whatever you saw on your ring camera, your car… anything. Please just come forward an say something.”
No one has been charged in her death.
One suspect approached the vehicle on foot and fired inside before leaving the area, an initial investigation shows.
The investigation is ongoing.
