Police said Johnson was one of three men who attacked David Poole.
Poole was walking with a woman near West Park over Memorial Day weekend last year when the men approached them.
One stole the woman’s cellphone and another robbed Poole of $60 before punching him and knocking him to the ground. Poole was hospitalized but later died.Steven Blakemore, 19, and Marquice Moran, 17, who were both arrested last year, also face charges in connection with Poole’s death.Tina Ernst, Poole’s sister, said she and her family were relieved to learn about Johnson’s arrest.
“We're so grateful to have the arrest of the third gentleman,” she told Channel 11 News Thursday. “This man needs to know he took the life of someone very special. We're thankful to have justice served for David.”
Channel 11 News learned Friday that Johnson was charged in connection with a shooting at a juvenile detention van in 2013. He was sentenced last February, but with time served, he was released in three months before Poole was killed.
"Knowing that he was still out there was really hard because my brother has teenage girls who are out there, and I would worry about them,” Ernst said.
Poole’s sister also thanked everyone who donated to help with funeral expenses, including a family who donated a Pittsburgh Pirates casket for her brother.
