Firefighters hold charity event for family of 6-year-old girl who died after being hit by a car

NORTH BELLE VERNON, Pa. — A Westmoreland County community is coming together after a 6-year-old was tragically killed Friday.

Aria Woznick was hit by a car Friday morning while she was waiting for her school bus.

She was walking with her older sibling and friends when she stepped into the busy street.

“I’m sad that she’s gone because she was the best little sister ever,” said Emma Woznick, Aria’s sister.

The driver of the car that hit her immediately stopped and several bystanders performed CPR to try to save her life.

“In my 58 years, this Friday was the worst day of my life,” said Woznick’s grandfather, Bob Crise.

On Sunday, Woznick’s family and friends attended a charity event hosted at the North Belle Vernon Fire Hall. The fire department held Bingo games to raise money and is donating all of the proceeds to Woznick’s family.

“It means so much to us. Her whole family, her brother and sister and her dad, and her aunts and her uncles and grandparents,” Amanda Woznick, Aria’s mother, said at the event.

Amanda and Aria’s father say the young girl was spunky and full of life. She ran everywhere she went and was happy all of the time.

“She was so loved,” said Amanda.

Belle Vernon’s police chief says the driver of the car was completely cooperative and that she was devastated. He says it appears to be a horrible accident but they are still investigating.
