WHITE OAK, Pa. — A former business manager and vice president of a White Oak animal shelter is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the non-profit business.
Police said that in the year and a half Frank Sabolcik volunteered at the White Oak Animal Safe Haven, he made hundreds of unauthorized purchases and withdrawals for personal use.
The stolen money amounted to more than $73,000, police said.
Sabolcik allegedly spent more than $10,000 at the Youghiogheny Country Club and $816 on Pittsburgh Power Football season tickets, authorities said.
Sabolcik’s girlfriend told detectives that Sabolcik used $1,300 for a home-improvement project, $428 on a pair of diamond earrings from Sears and another $1,300 on ski strips to Hidden Valley.
Police said $10,000 in raffle-ticket money was also stolen, allegedly by Sabolcik.
Investigators said Sabolcik made the transactions look like animal shelter expenses by doctoring the books.
Sabolcik’s girlfriend told police she assumed Sabolcik was a wealthy man.
Sabolcik is facing theft charges.
