WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Free meals were given to Greene County residents as part of a Christmas tradition.
Ever since 2018, volunteers have cooked, served and delivered food to anyone who asks for it.
This year, the effort was dedicated to a man who helped it grow before his unexpected death.
Dave Torboli died from a heart attack earlier this year. His friend, and creator of the annual Free Christmas Dinner, Chuck Wolfe said he was one of the people who brought the event to life and made it special.
“This was dear to him and his family. They wanted to donate money this year so we dedicated this to Dave Torboli,” Wolfe said.
Volunteers also served meals at the Waynesburg Eagles Lodge and the Carmichaels Activity Center.
“Everybody here is like a close-knit family,” said one volunteer.
The volunteers collect toys to give to children and senior citizens.
