PITTSBURGH — After several snow squalls throughout the afternoon that snarled the evening commute, traffic around the Pittsburgh region returned to normal Friday evening.
“The roads were okay, the back road to our house was a little bit slick, but for the most part the roads were okay,” said Brandon Duncan of McCandless.
Duncan and his wife stopped at a grocery store to get ready for a weekend in the city
“With the Steelers game in town, it’s actually my wife’s birthday so we were gonna be watching the game in the city and hanging out going different places, but our plans are changing a little bit now with this frigid weather,” Duncan told Channel 11′s Andrew Havranek.
Temperatures for the Steelers game will be cold — around 22 degrees at kickoff.
It’s a shock to the system for Rafael and Sandy Francis.
“Its a little cold, but manageable, not too bad,” Rafael Francis said. “We were just in Florida so getting back to this cold Pittsburgh weather was an unpleasant surprise, but that’s okay. We can handle it. [The Florida weather] was nice, much nicer than this! Sunny and warm.”
This really is the start to what will be a long wintery weather weekend. With additional snow in the forecast for Monday - the City of Pittsburgh expects to have about 60 trucks out on the roads after some trucks went down during this latest storm.
“We’re licking our wounds a little bit we’re gonna do some truck maintenance over the weekend we’re just getting our resources lined up to get ready to get back at it Sunday,” said Chris Hornstein, Pittsburgh’s Public Works Director.
Those Channel 11 talked to Friday night are taking it in stride, even if some plans might change a bit.
“I’m a kid who grew up in the 90s and I kinda miss the old snow days we used to have so seeing more snow in the forecast, I actually like that especially this time of the year, it’s very festive,” Duncan said.
“I don’t mind it in December and January, but it gets old by February and March,” added Francis.
If you are going to the Steelers game Saturday and need a little extra warmth, Acrisure Stadium says things like heated socks, coats, vests, and blankets are allowed.
