Visitation, memorial service to be held today for Penn Hills paramedic; Funeral to be held Saturday

PENN HILL, Pa. — Funeral arrangements have been announced for the Penn Hills paramedic who died after an ambulance crash in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood.

On Sunday night, Nick Theofilis was driving a Penn Hills ambulance when it struck another vehicle in Shadyside. When Pittsburgh police got there, Theofilis was in cardiac arrest and died at the hospital.

Funeral home visitation will be held at the William F. Gross Funeral Home Ltd., located at 11735 Frankstown Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 (Penn Hills), Allegheny County, on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a multi-agency memorial service at 6:30 p.m.

Theofilis’ funeral will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, beginning with a prayer service at the funeral home at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Susanna Church-Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish, located at 200 Stotler Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 (Penn Hills) at 11 a.m.

Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, located at 12707 Frankstown Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 (Penn Hills).

Any EMS or fire service wishing to send representatives to the funeral on Saturday, should arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. Call 412/342-0850 and leave a voicemail message with your organization’s name, number of vehicles attending and number of personnel attending the funeral.

All EMS and fire units attending should approach the funeral home on Frankstown Road from the east (Saltsburg/Hulton Road Intersection).

There were two other people injured in the accident. Both are expected to survive.
