OHIO TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Flags in Butler County and Harrisburg were lowered to half-staff Monday in honor of a fallen local soldier.
Funeral services for Staff Sgt. Eric Holman were held Monday afternoon at a Mount Nebo cemetery.
His wife and son were joined by hundreds of family members and friends to bid him farewell.
The most emotional moment was when soldiers handed an American flag to Holman’s 7-year-old son, Misha.
Holman, 39, was one month shy of returning home when he was killed August 15 by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.
Vicki Carse, a longtime friend of Holman, said he enlisted after September 11th.
“He said he was going to sign up and enlist, that was his dream, his goal and his adventure,” Carse said. “He’s made us proud and everybody else should be proud of him.”
The Golden Knight Parachute team will be at the Grove City Airport in October to put on a memorial service display for their fallen soldier.
Holman, who lived in Evans City, was a graduate of Avonworth High School in Ohio Township.
