MCKEESPORT, Pa. — The McKeesport Public Works building at 1300 Market Street is just the shell it once was after it erupted into flames Sunday morning.
The fire was called in at 6:18 a.m., according to Allegheny County 911.
McKeesport Public Works Director Steve Kondrosky said the blaze destroyed the garage and all of the vehicles inside, including large salt trucks and snow plows.

“There’s four CDL vehicles in there for sure, a paver, a sweeper, vactor, forklifts, other pieces of equipment that we use on a daily basis,” Kondrosky said.
Kondrosky also told Channel 11′s Lori Houy that he’s estimating the loss cost millions of dollars, with one of the vactors costing $500,000 alone.
Despite the loss, Kondrosky said it will be business as usual on Monday morning. He said they would appreciate if any of the surrounding communities could lend out some of their equipment.
A fire marshal is investigating how the fire started.
