PITTSBURGH — George Pickens will likely not play when the Steelers travel to Philadelphia on Sunday.
Pickens was a surprise inactive player when the Steelers played the Browns at home last Sunday. Despite his absence, the team eliminated the Browns from the playoffs in a 27-14 win.
On Tuesday, Mike Tomlin said Pickens had an MRI after the game, and that scan showed that the hamstring injury plaguing his top receiver is more significant than they initially thought.
“If you pressed me I’d probably say he’s out [Sunday against the Eagles], or could be characterized as doubtful as we sit here,” Tomlin said.
At the moment, Pickens is labeled as doubtful, with Tomlin saying there’s an “outside chance” he plays. But, the overall goal for the Steelers is to get Pickens “as healthy as quickly as they possibly can.”
The Steelers could clinch a playoff spot Sunday. There are two clinching scenarios: if the Steelers defeat or tie the Eagles, or if the Dolphins lose or tie with the Texans and the Colts lose to or tie with Denver.
