Family of Greene County Sheriff badly injured in motorcycle crash reminding public about helmets

GREENE COUNTY, Pa. — Greene County Sheriff Marcus Simms is recovering after a motorcycle crash left him with injuries from head to toe.

“The recovery is going good,” said Brittney Simms, his wife. “They’re definitely pretty impressed with how well he is doing. And he’s still in a tremendous amount of pain and it will be a long recovery.”

Sheriff Simms is now in stable condition after being flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown on Friday.

He was out on a ride with friends when he crashed his motorcycle in Dunkard Township near the intersection of Bobtown Road and Williamson Hill Road.

Simms suffered broken vertebrae, a concussion, a broken orbital bone, a broken sternum, broken ribs, a broken hand and a broken toe.

Though he has no memory of the accident — he did remember to wear all of his protective gear — including his helmet, which doctors think saved his life.

“They do expect him to make a full recovery. It will just be a long process,” Brittney Simms said.

The family is taking his recovery day by day and asks everyone to remember to wear a helmet.
