GREENSBURG, Pa. — A Greensburg man pleaded guilty to neglecting his service dog Thursday.
Bryan Thompson, 56, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty and neglect of animals for failing to provide veterinary care to his service dog.
The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office said a concerned patron called police after they noticed Thompson’s service dog had a severe infection due to an improper tail docking.
Authorities seized the dog, who underwent surgery. Officials said his health is improving and he will remain under medical foster care until he is available for adoption.
Thompson was ordered to 23 months of incarceration. Assistant District Attorney Krista Koontz said Thompson is also entering a treatment facility and was ordered that he cannot care for any animals as a condition of his plea.
