PITTSBURGH — UPDATE 5/22/23: The Allegheny County Medical Examiner ruled the death as a suicide.
Pittsburgh police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man at a homeless encampment.
Officers responded to the wooded area by the Chestnut Street Exit off Route 28, where the man was found dead Friday morning. The victim had a stab wound to the neck and appeared to be in his early 30s, according to police.
Jerrell Gilliam, former executive director of Light of Life Rescue, said he knew the man who was stabbed, and that he had no history of violent behavior.
“...So to lose a gentle soul like this is really sad,” Gilliam said.
The victim has been identified as Michael Dodson, 30.
Violent Crime Detectives are investigating the apparent homicide.
