The fire started in the 700 block of 10th Avenue at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday.
“I literally had chills because just the thought of, I’ve lived through a fire when I was younger and it just instantly took me back to that smell and literally losing everything and not knowing what you are going to do next,” Elizabeth Hough, a New Brighton resident, said.
That’s why she’s stepped up to help the Davis family. A family of seven with four teenage boys lost everything when flames engulfed their New Brighton home Tuesday night.
“A teacher at the high school has set up so donations can come to the high school lobby so that’s incredible, we have moms on the basketball team who are rallying to pull donations together,” Hough said.
An entire community effort to get this family everything they need.
“Just knowing that so many people are there and wrapping our arms around them and hey we are going to meet whatever need you have that’s huge so we have stepped up and I couldn’t be more proud to say I’m from New Brighton,” Hough said.
While this family is heavily involved in sports, the one son lost his letterman jacket and now the school is working to get him a new one.
“It’s just incredible to see a whole community say hey whatever you need we got you, we are going to help you through this,” Hough said.
If you want to contribute, there are donation sites at the high school.
