How does the amount of snow we’ve seen this winter compare to the past?

PITTSBURGH — We’ve seen two 70 degree days this February and another one is likely on the way. You might be wondering how the winter stats add up so far this season, and we’ve seen the least amount of snowfall by month and season. So far, we’ve had the least snowfall on record for the month of February.

Comparing 2023 to other Snowless Februarys

1909      0.5 inches

1884      0.6 inches

1987      1.1 inches

The average snowfall in February for our area is 11.7 inches.

We’re not going to be number one in the least snowfall by season this winter, but we are up there.

Least Snowfall By Season

The winter season that saw the least snowfall in history was winter 1918-19 with 8.8 inches. We sit in 4th place so far for the 2022-2023 winter season with a current total of 14.5 inches.

The average snowfall for a winter season in Pittsburgh is 44.1 inches. 11 News spoke to one of the mangers at Boyce Park Ski and Tub about the weather on the slopes this season.

”This has been the hardest February getting warmer the rain and wind have really hurt the snow pack,” said Paul Toman.

They are not planning on making snow tomorrow because of the warm day ahead. They need low humidity with temperatures at 28 degrees in order to make snow.
