PITTSBURGH — Human remains that were found in a wooded area in Pittsburgh on March 19 have been identified as an Etna woman who went missing over three years ago.
Kaylene Oehling was last heard from on Jan. 10, 2020, after visiting a friend and leaving to meet someone. She was 20 years old at the time of her disappearance.
On Sunday, hunters discovered a human skull in a wooded area off Washington Boulevard in Linoln-Lemington-Belmar. Police found other bones nearby shortly after. On Friday, The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office identified the remains found as Oehling.
Oehling’s family sent Channel 11 the following statement:
“Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers at this time. Although not unexpected, this is a very difficult time for our family and ultimately not the outcome any of us wanted. We are thankful that Kaylene has been found so that she can finally be back with our family. Now the true fight for justice can begin. Thank you all for your support during these last three years and especially at this time. Young/Oehling Family”
The medical examiner’s office has not listed a cause of manner of death; however, county detectives have previously told Channel 11 that the case is suspicious and they do have suspects.
No one has ever been arrested in Oehling’s disappearance. But not long after, her ex-boyfriend, Michael Manno, was charged after he allegedly sent explicit photographs of Oehling to her younger sister, who was a minor at the time.
He ultimately pleaded “no contest.” Public records show he has faced many other charges over the years: including sexual assault and arson.
