PITTSBURGH — Hundreds of cars have been stolen from streets throughout Pittsburgh in recent months.
The thieves have been targeting Kias, Hondas, and Hyundais. Channel 11 News spoke with one woman whose car was stolen outside her home.
“Where’s my car? Why is it not here?” Kristina remembered asking.
Kristina said when she woke up and looked out her back window on Friday morning, she immediately noticed her car was missing.
“I came out here I saw the glass on the floor,” she said.
She told Channel 11 that the car was parked behind her Brookline home on Woodbourne Street, like usual, and the car doors were locked.
“I always double-check my car, I have an alarm system, I feel like there is nothing more I could have done,” Kristina said.
Despite the precautions, her 2011 blue Hyundai bearing the license plate KGH1212 was stolen.
According to Pittsburgh Police thieves have targeted these neighborhoods: Carrick, Knoxville, Beltzhoover, Sheraden and Brookline.
In the past few months, thieves have stolen hundreds of vehicles:
- In September 75 cars were stolen, and 61 were found
- In October 108 cars were stolen, and 81 were found
- In November 71 cars were stolen, and 49 were found
- So far in December 30 cars have been stolen, and 12 have been found
Kristina told us it was more than just her car that was stolen — it was also sentimental items for her son, and her sense of security.
“His stroller, his car seat, his favorite toy — which is obviously replaceable — but still it’s a lot,” she said.
With all that she and her family lost, Kristina had this message for the thief:
“Just do the right thing. You are headed down a path of destruction, this will hurt you more than it hurts me,” she said.
Police are still investigating this incident and want anyone who comes across the car to call immediately.
