The relentless and at times torrential rain did not stop hundreds of people from packing into the Westmoreland Fairgrounds for former President Donald Trump’s rally in support of Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate, Dr. Mehmet Oz.
Dr. Oz is one of seven Republican candidates in a crowded race for Pat Toomey’s Senate seat. Sen. Toomey is not running for reelection.
Oz told the crowd his career as a heart surgeon has prepared him for anything. He distinguished himself from President Biden, saying he disagrees with how the pandemic has been handled, specifically referring to mask mandates and business closures.
The divisive topic of abortion — front and center in the headlines this week with questions about the fate of Roe v. Wade — was addressed.
Dr. Oz insists that he is pro-life and that life starts at conception. But during last week’s debate with WPXI anchor Lisa Sylvester, Oz did not respond directly to a question about exceptions for abortion, or if his opinion had changed over the years.
Former President Trump returned to western Pennsylvania for the first time since the 2020 election, campaigning hard for his fellow television star. Trump said Oz will crack down on China, keep jobs in the U.S., and get our country on a healthier track.
“Six months from now, vote to get rid of radical Dems. Elect Oz,” Trump said.
“Pursuit of happiness, capitalism, each individual has an opportunity to determine how your life is going to be lived,” Oz said.
Hedge Fund CEO Dave McCormick is right with Oz, leading the race for the Republicans.
Lt. Gov. John Fetterman and congressman Conor Lamb top the latest polls for the Democrats.
Pennsylvania’s primary election is May 17.
