MONROEVILLE, Pa. — The Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh broke ground Monday on a new project to make summer camp more inclusive.
The state gave the JCC a $2 million grant to expand facilities at the Henry Kaufmann Camp in Monroeville.
“The Cove” will be a reimagined, year-round, temperature-controlled facility designed to enhance the camp experience and create new opportunities for neuro-diverse children, including those with autism.
“We will be able to create a community-style dining hall here. It will also be a flexible program space as the elements become more challenging,” said Jason Kunzman, CEO of JCC Pittsburgh.
Construction is expected to be completed by June in time for the summer camp season.
