Jefferson Hills residents concerned about plans for fracking site

JEFFERSON HILLS, Pa. — Residents of a neighborhood in Jefferson Hills are upset after learning that a nearby property could be used to build gas wells.

The Bickerton Well Site property, owned by EQT, is about a half mile from a park and also near homes on Marion Drive.

EQT already obtained a state permit, and needs a conditional use permit before drilling can begin.

Residents are upset that about inconveniences that will come along with the site, and said they do not want to raise their families so close to gas wells.

“We decided this is where we’re going to live and raise our family and now we find out about this last week and it’s devastating,” said Deborah Caley, a resident of Jefferson Hills.

Residents told Channel 11 News they are hoping the Borough Council denies EQT’s request for a conditional use permit.

“When they see our faces and the heartache in our voices, I hope they do (deny the request),” said Carrie Daerr, another resident.
