PITTSBURGH — Kennywood Park opens in less than a month, and needs to fill over 1,000 seasonal jobs. The park is offering perks and incentives to entice workers.
The rides may not be running yet, but a lot of work is going on behind the scenes, as the park looks for employees for the upcoming season.
Saturday, the park held a hiring event for both Kennywood and Sandcastle, and interested applicants showed up.
“I’m looking for a summer job,” attendant Rylee Glus told 11 News. “Both my parents work at Kennywood and my aunt works at the Sandcastle. I thought it would be a good place to work.”
The pay is as high as $15 an hour for positions that require an adult (18 and up) or a high school graduate, such as Suraya Craighead.
“I’m applying for a game operator position,” Craighead said. “I really like just working with people and I’m just excited to work and be around people my age and have a good time working.”
Mark Frazee, the Public Relations and Social Media Coordinator at Kennywood, says that this is a competitive job market, and that offering up to $15 an hour will help attract employees.
“And there’s a lot of other great perks,” Frazee explained. “Tickets for friends and family on the off-season, after-hours events. Food discounts, retail discounts and of course the best thing: making new memories here and meeting new people.”
Frazee says the park is hoping to get as close to normal as possible this year, and that hiring people is the first step to doing just that.
Nearby, Idlewild Park has 700 openings, and will hold a similar job fair next Saturday at the park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Between Kennywood, Idlewild and Sandcastle, more than 2,000 seasonal positions are up for grabs.
