One of the newest features is an upgrades security system which was added to the park after Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. threatened to delay opening day if security changes were not made. The security system was able to help security prevent four teenagers from illegally entering the park on its first day in use.
Kennywood has planned a five-weekend-long event honoring the park’s long history.
“The 125th-anniversary celebration has been a two-year culmination of excitement, renovations, a whole new vibe here at Kennywood and we’re excited to open the gates here for what will become our best season yet,” said Gene Petriello sales director at Kennywood.
The newest ride, Spinvasion, is set to open on Memorial Day weekend. The ride is the first of its kind in the United States and will take Center Stage in the area 412 part of the park.
