Woman dead, man injured in West Homestead crash

A woman died after a crash in West Homestead early Thursday morning.

Lisa Taylor, 52, died at the scene of the crash, which happened around 12:48 a.m. in the 600 block of W. Seventh Avenue, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.

Video captured by a Channel 11 photographer showed extensive damage to the vehicle and debris scattered all over the road.

The road was closed for several hours as the Allegheny County crash reconstruction team investigated and crews cleared the scene.

“The debris field was over 300 feet,” said Chief John Dindak of the West Homestead Volunteer Fire Department

Officials say Taylor, who was a passenger, was thrown from the vehicle. The driver had to be pulled from the wreckage and taken to a hospital. His name and condition have not been released.

Dindak called it one of the worst crashes he’s seen in a long time. Although the official cause hasn’t been determined, he said speed was obviously a factor.

“It looked like something you’d see on NASCAR, the way it just exploded,” he said.
