PITTSBURGH — A three-car crash on Pittsburgh’s South Shore sent two people to the hospital Thursday afternoon.
Witnesses told 11 News it was all caused by a man on a motorcycle who was weaving in and out of traffic before speeding away from the chaotic scene.
“It was a horrible screeching sound and then it was bad,” said Michelle Jordan, who watched the crash unfold around 3 p.m. as she was standing near West Carson Street on her lunch break.
“Her car landed two feet from me and I just froze there,” Jordan said. “I didn’t even jump out of the way.”
After freezing initially, Jordan sprang into action, helping one of the two drivers she watched collide head-on.
“Her driver’s side window was shattered, so I was able to grab it and yank it and pull it out because she was white-knuckling the steering wheel because she was in shock,” Jordan recounted.
She said a third driver swerved off the road and through a fence, falling several feet to the parking lot below.
Emergency dispatchers told 11 News two people were rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Their conditions were unknown.
“I heard all the tires lock up and everything and then heard the ‘Boom,’” said Dylan Benson, who was working nearby when the crash happened.
According to Benson, cars and motorcycles often speed through this stretch of the South Shore.
“Usually, you hear screeching tires and no ‘Boom,’ but this time it was big,” Benson said.
Police are trying to track down the motorcycle rider.
